The absolute must-see is the Curonian Spit & Kursiu Nerija National Park, a remarkable 98-kilometer-long sand dune spit. Excursions here often visit the charming fishing village of Nida or the Hill of Witches in Juodkrantė. This requires a short ferry ride and a bus or taxi journey, taking up much of the day but is well worth the effort. For a closer attraction, the Lithuanian Sea Museum is located in a historic fort just a quick passenger ferry ride across the lagoon. Cruise visitors can also easily spend hours exploring Klaipeda's Old Town on foot, admiring the German 'fachwerk' architecture and discovering its many unique sculptures.

A popular nearby destination is the seaside resort town of Palanga, located about a 30-40 minute drive north of Klaipeda. It's famous for its beautiful sandy beaches, the bustling J. Basanavičius street, and the magnificent Palanga Amber Museum housed in the Tiškevičiai Palace. Another key destination is Neringa, the municipality on the Curonian Spit & Kursiu Nerija National Park. The fishing village of Nida, at the southern end of the Lithuanian spit, is particularly picturesque with its colorful wooden houses and the impressive Parnidis Dune. Reaching Nida from the port takes about an hour, including the ferry crossing.

The Klaipeda cruise terminal is ideally located right at the entrance of the Dane River, adjacent to the city center. Passengers can walk from the ship to the Old Town in just 5 to 10 minutes, making it one of the most convenient ports in the Baltic. No shuttles are necessary to explore the central part of the city. While the terminal itself has basic amenities, a wide array of cafes, restaurants, and shops are just a short stroll away. Cruise ships dock directly at the pier, so there is no need for tendering.

Klaipeda's Old Town is compact and easily walkable from the cruise port. For destinations further afield, taxis and ride-sharing services like Bolt are readily available and affordable. The city also has an efficient public bus system. To visit the Curonian Spit & Kursiu Nerija National Park, you must take the Smiltynės Perkėla ferry. The Old Ferry Terminal, for pedestrians and cyclists, is a short walk from the cruise terminal, while the New Ferry Terminal for vehicles is located further south. Once on the spit, local buses connect the various settlements like Juodkrantė and Nida.

The best shopping for unique souvenirs can be found in the boutiques and galleries of Klaipeda's Old Town. The most sought-after local product is amber, often called 'Baltic Gold,' which is crafted into beautiful jewelry. High-quality linen products, black ceramics, and traditional wooden crafts are also popular local souvenirs. For more conventional shopping, the Akropolis shopping and entertainment center is a large, modern mall located a short taxi ride from the port. Prices in stores are fixed, though you may find some room for gentle negotiation at outdoor craft stalls.
