For marine life encounters, head to Ocean Adventure Subic Bay, an open-water marine park featuring dolphin and sea lion shows that emphasize conservation. Another popular excursion is a visit to the Pamulaklakin Forest Trail, where you can learn jungle survival skills from the indigenous Aeta people on a guided trekking tour. Adventure seekers can also try the ziplines and canopy walks at Treetop Adventure Subic.

Just outside the gates of the Freeport Zone is Olongapo City, a bustling local city where you can experience a more traditional Filipino market and city life. It is immediately adjacent to the port area.

For a longer excursion, many visitors travel to the Clark Freeport Zone and the surrounding city of Angeles, approximately a 60 to 90-minute drive from Subic Bay. Clark offers its own set of attractions, including water parks, casinos, and historical landmarks related to its past as a U.S. air base.

Cruise ships typically dock at the Alava Wharf, located deep within the secure and well-maintained Subic Bay Freeport Zone. This is an industrial pier and is not situated within a walkable commercial or tourist district.

There are very few amenities directly at the pier itself. Passengers will need transportation to reach attractions, restaurants, and shopping centers like Harbor Point Ayala Mall, which is a 5-10 minute drive away. Taxis and pre-arranged shuttle buses are readily available at the port to take visitors to their destinations.

The official currency is the Philippine Peso (PHP). While some tourist-oriented establishments within the Freeport Zone may accept U.S. dollars, it's highly recommended to use the local currency for better exchange rates and wider acceptance.

As with any travel destination, standard safety precautions should be observed. Be mindful of your belongings in crowded areas and avoid displaying expensive jewelry or large amounts of cash. While exploring areas outside the Freeport Zone, like Olongapo City, it's best to stick to well-traveled areas. For activities like jungle trekking, always use a registered guide.

Average temperatures range from 78°F to 92°F (26°C to 33°C). Passengers should pack lightweight clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. The wet season is from May to October, which coincides with the Pacific typhoon season, so visitors during this time should be prepared for heavy rainfall and potential weather disruptions.

Inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, regulated taxis are the most common way to get around for tourists. These are readily available at the cruise terminal and major attractions.

Ride-sharing services like Grab are also available, though they may be less numerous than in larger cities. For travel between the Freeport Zone and the adjacent Olongapo City, jeepneys are a popular and inexpensive local option. For excursions, the most convenient option is often to book a shore excursion through your cruise line or hire a private van or taxi for the day, which can be arranged at the pier.

Shopping in Subic Bay is highlighted by its numerous duty-free stores, a legacy of its Freeport status. Large stores like Royal Subic and Puregold Duty Free offer a wide range of imported goods, from chocolates and liquors to electronics and perfumes.

For a modern shopping experience, Harbor Point Ayala Mall features a mix of international and local brands, restaurants, and a supermarket. For local souvenirs, look for items like handcrafted wood carvings, pearl jewelry, and popular Filipino snacks such as dried mangoes. Prices in malls and duty-free shops are fixed, but you may be able to negotiate at smaller souvenir stands or local markets in Olongapo City.
