The main attraction for visitors docking in Safaga is a full-day shore excursion to Luxor. This trip, though long at 3-4 hours each way, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see world-renowned sites. Key highlights in Luxor include the sprawling Karnak Temple, the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, and the majestic Luxor Temple.

For those preferring to stay closer to the coast, the resort city of Hurghada is about an hour's drive north. Here, you can enjoy beautiful beaches and world-class snorkeling and diving in the Red Sea's vibrant coral reefs.

Locally, Safaga is famous for its ideal wind conditions, making it a top spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing. You can also book a thrilling desert safari on a quad bike to explore the starkly beautiful surrounding landscape.

The premier nearby destination is the ancient city of Luxor, located approximately 220 kilometers (137 miles) west of Safaga. The journey by bus takes about 3 to 4 hours, making for a very long but rewarding day trip to see its famous temples and tombs.

A much closer alternative is the bustling resort city of Hurghada, situated about 60 kilometers (37 miles) north along the coast. A drive of roughly one hour will take you to its numerous beaches, resorts, shops, and opportunities for aquatic activities in the Red Sea.

The Safaga Cruise Port is an industrial and commercial port located a few kilometers outside the main town of Safaga. Due to its industrial nature, the immediate port area has very limited amenities for tourists, and walking out of the port is not practical or recommended.
