Key Boracay Port Information

Top Attractions & Excursions

The undisputed main attraction is the stunning White Beach, a 2.5-mile stretch of powdery white sand that is consistently ranked among the world's best. Your tender will likely drop you off nearby, making it the perfect spot to swim, sunbathe, or relax.

For a bit of shopping and dining, head to D'Mall Boracay, an open-air collection of boutiques and eateries located right off White Beach.

If you desire a different coastal view, take a 15-minute tricycle ride to Puka Shell Beach on the island's northern tip, known for its coarser sand mixed with tiny puka shells and a more tranquil atmosphere.

For a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire island, a short ride to the peak of Mount Luho is well worth the effort.

Nearby Cities & Attractions

For thrill-seekers, a popular excursion is a boat trip to Ariel's Point, a nearby eco-adventure destination famous for its cliff diving platforms, which range from 3 to 15 meters high. The trip usually takes about 30-40 minutes by boat and offers a full day of activities.

Many visitors opt for an island hopping tour which takes them to nearby snorkeling spots and smaller islands like Crocodile Island and Magic Island.

For a cultural experience, you can take a short boat ride to the mainland port of Caticlan and visit the Motag Living Museum to see a recreation of a traditional Filipino village and learn about local customs.

Port Location

Cruise ships do not dock in Boracay; they anchor offshore and transport passengers to the island via tender boats. The primary tender drop-off point is typically Cagban Jetty Port at the southern end of the island, or sometimes directly onto White Beach itself, depending on sea conditions.

From Cagban Jetty Port, the main tourist hub around Station 2 and D'Mall Boracay is a short 10-15 minute ride away via electric tricycle.

If your tender arrives directly at White Beach, you will be in the heart of the action immediately, with restaurants, shops, and tour operators lining the beach path.

Local Currency

The official currency is the Philippine Peso (PHP). While some tourist-oriented establishments may accept US dollars, it is not common practice, and you will get a much better rate by paying in the local currency.

ATMs are readily available, especially in the main commercial area of D'Mall Boracay, and are the easiest way to get cash.

Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, larger restaurants, and established shops, but you will need cash for smaller vendors, tricycle fares, and purchases at local markets.

Safety Considerations

Boracay is generally a very safe destination for tourists. The main safety concern is petty crime, such as pickpocketing, which can occur in crowded areas like D'Mall Boracay or along the busier sections of White Beach. Always be aware of your belongings.

Be cautious when approached by vendors on the beach offering unsolicited tours or services; it's best to book activities through your cruise line or reputable, licensed operators. It is very safe to explore the main tourist areas independently during the day.

As with any beach destination, exercise caution when swimming and be mindful of water conditions and any posted warnings.

Weather & Climate

Boracay has a tropical climate, meaning it is warm and humid throughout the year. The primary cruise season, from November to May, coincides with the dry season, known locally as Amihan.

During these months, you can expect plenty of sunshine, lower humidity, and average temperatures ranging from 77°F to 90°F (25°C to 32°C), making for perfect beach weather.

The rainy season runs from June to October and carries a higher risk of typhoons, so cruise visits are less frequent then. Pack light, breathable clothing, swimwear, and strong sun protection like hats and high-SPF sunscreen.

Getting Around

The primary mode of transportation on the island is the electric tricycle, or e-trike. These can be found everywhere and are the standard way to get between beaches and other points of interest.

You can hire one for a private trip by agreeing on a fare beforehand, or join a shared route for a lower fixed price. From the tender port, e-trikes are readily available to take you to White Beach or other destinations.

For exploring the length of White Beach, walking along the beach path is the most enjoyable option. For excursions like an Island hopping tour, you will travel on motorized outrigger boats called bancas.

Shopping

The main hub for shopping in Boracay is D'Mall Boracay, an open-air shopping complex located at Station 2 along White Beach. Here you will find a wide array of souvenir shops, beachwear boutiques, and local craft stores.

Popular souvenirs include items made from local materials, such as pearl jewelry, woven bags and hats, and wood carvings. You can also find T-shirts and other small keepsakes.

Haggling is acceptable and expected at smaller market stalls, but prices are generally fixed in the more established retail stores. Look for local delicacies like dried mangoes and otap (a puff pastry biscuit) to take home.
