The crowning glory of the town is the Citadel of Calvi, a 13th-century Genoese fortress perched high above the bay, located just a 5-minute walk from the tender landing.

For incredible sweeping vistas, take a short 10-minute taxi ride to Notre-Dame de la Serra, a hilltop chapel offering panoramic views of the entire gulf.

If you prefer relaxation, the soft golden sand of Calvi Beach stretches for miles right adjacent to the marina, easily accessible within a 10-minute walk from the port quay.

A popular day trip destination is the hilltop village of San Antonino, located about 20 kilometers away (a 35-minute drive), known as one of the oldest and most beautiful villages in France.

Craft lovers often visit Pigna, a charming nearby mountain village approximately 22 kilometers (35 minutes) from port, famous for its traditional artisans and historic architecture.

Additionally, the coastal town of L'Île-Rousse lies just 25 kilometers (30 minutes) to the east, offering lovely granite islands and laid-back seaside squares.

Cruise ships anchor off the coast, and tender boats transport passengers directly to the marina, known as the Port de Plaisance. The tender drop-off point puts you right in the center of action at the foot of the historic town and marina promenade.

No shuttle buses are required to reach the town center, as restaurants, boutiques, and historic sights are immediately adjacent to the dock. The waterfront marina area features plenty of seaside cafés, tourist information kiosks, and shaded benches to relax.

The official currency used in Calvi is the Euro (€), as Corsica is a region of France. US Dollars are not accepted for daily transactions, so passengers should plan to pay in Euros.

Credit cards such as Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at most shops, restaurants, and taxi services, though carrying a small amount of cash is recommended for minor purchases. ATMs are readily available along the main streets near the marina and Rue Clémenceau.

Calvi is considered an extremely safe destination for cruise visitors, with very low rates of crime. Independent exploration on foot is easy and safe throughout the day and evening.

As with any popular Mediterranean resort, keep an eye on personal belongings in crowded market areas or on public beaches. Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are strongly advised, as the cobbled walkways within the citadel can be steep and uneven.

During the primary cruise season from May through October, Calvi enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate with abundant sunshine. Summer temperatures in July and August typically range from 26°C to 31°C (79°F to 88°F), accompanied by low rainfall.

Spring and autumn months offer pleasant weather ranging between 18°C and 24°C (64°F and 75°F), perfect for sightseeing. Passengers should pack lightweight clothing, sun protection, a hat, and swimwear for beach visits.

Since the main attractions, beach, and citadel are easily walkable from the marina, formal transport is rarely needed for exploring the town itself.

To travel along the coast, passengers can board the scenic coastal train known as Trinighellu Coastal Train, which connects the harbor to nearby beaches and L'Île-Rousse.

Taxis are available near the port for private island tours, or visitors can join a local boat excursion like the Scandola Nature Reserve Boat Tour to explore nearby coastal cliffs.

The main shopping streets, Rue Clémenceau and Boulevard Wilson, run parallel to the marina and feature an array of boutique clothing shops and local food stores.

Popular souvenirs include Corsican charcuterie, artisanal cheeses, maquis honey, myrtle liqueur, and chestnut-based delicacies. Prices are fixed in retail stores, and while there are no duty-free outlets in town, tax-refund forms may be available at select shops for non-EU residents.
