Cruise vessels dock at Mormugao Port in the town of Vasco da Gama, which is primarily an industrial and logistics hub. The port is situated about 18 miles (30 km) from the capital city of Panaji and quite a distance from the famous North Goa beaches, meaning transportation is absolutely necessary to reach main attractions. The dock area itself has limited tourist amenities, though there is a cruise terminal building with basic facilities. Tendering is typically not required as the port has deep-water berths capable of accommodating large ocean liners.

The official currency is the Indian Rupee (INR). while some vendors in high-traffic tourist areas may accept US Dollars or Euros, the exchange rates are usually poor, so it is highly recommended to use local currency. ATMs are available in Vasco da Gama and major towns like Panaji, and authorized money changers are common near the beaches. Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, larger restaurants, and established shops, but cash is king at flea markets and small beach shacks.

This destination is generally considered safe for tourists, known for its friendly and hospitable locals, but standard precautions regarding personal belongings should be taken in crowded markets. When swimming at the beaches, always adhere to lifeguard warnings and flags, as the currents in the Arabian Sea can be deceptively strong. While independent exploration is popular, using government-approved prepaid taxis or booked shore excursions is recommended to avoid scams and navigate the traffic efficiently. Auto-rickshaws are available for short trips within towns but are not recommended for long distances between the port and the beaches. Ride-sharing availability can be inconsistent, so arranging a round-trip fare with a taxi driver is often the best strategy.

Shoppers will find a paradise here, particularly if visiting the famous Anjuna Flea Market (on Wednesdays) or the vibrant Saturday Night Market in Arpora. Popular items to look for include cashew nuts, local spices like cardamom and pepper, colorful handicrafts, and Azulejos (Portuguese-style hand-painted tiles). In Panaji, the shops along 18th June Road offer a mix of branded goods and local boutiques selling cotton garments. Bargaining is expected and part of the culture at street stalls, whereas prices are generally fixed in air-conditioned shops.
