Key Beijing Port Information

Top Attractions & Excursions

For a spectacular view of the cityscape, a ride on the Tianjin Eye, a massive 120-meter-tall Ferris wheel constructed over the Yongle Bridge, is an absolute must and is reachable in about an hour from the port.

History enthusiasts can take a scenic excursion to the Huangyaguan Great Wall (Great Wall at Huangya Pass), located approximately two hours away, offering breathtaking mountain views and a less-crowded section of this ancient wonder.

Another incredible cultural gem is the Dule Temple (Temple of Solitary Joy), a magnificent ancient Buddhist temple in Ji County featuring one of China's oldest surviving clay sculptures, situated roughly two hours from the terminal.

Nearby Cities & Attractions

The most popular destination from the port is the capital city of Beijing, located roughly 120 kilometers away and easily accessible in just 30 to 45 minutes via the high-speed bullet train from nearby Tanggu or Yujiapu stations.

In Beijing, cruise passengers can embark on full-day excursions to iconic landmarks such as the magnificent Forbidden City and the historic Tiananmen Square.

Alternatively, the historic seaside resort town of Qinhuangdao and its famous Shanhaiguan Pass, where the Great Wall meets the sea, can be reached in about two and a half hours for a unique coastal history experience.

Port Location

The Tianjin International Cruise Home Port is located in the Dongjiang Scenic Area of the Binhai New Area, approximately 30 kilometers from downtown Tanggu and about 70 kilometers from downtown Tianjin.

Because of this distance, passengers require pre-arranged transfers, taxis, or organized shore excursions to reach the main city centers, as there is no convenient public transit directly outside the terminal.

The modern, multi-story terminal building is fully wheelchair accessible and offers basic amenities, including a tourist information desk, currency exchange counters, a few convenience kiosks, and resting areas.

Last updated on July 13, 2026

Local Currency

The local currency is the Chinese Yuan Renminbi. Foreign currencies like US Dollars or Euros are not widely accepted for everyday transactions, so passengers should plan to obtain local currency.

ATMs accepting international cards like Visa and Mastercard are available at the cruise terminal and throughout major shopping districts, though transaction fees may apply.

While major hotels and high-end restaurants accept international credit cards, smaller vendors and taxis rely heavily on local mobile payment systems like WeChat Pay and Alipay, making carrying some cash highly recommended.

Safety Considerations

Tianjin is generally considered a very safe destination for international travelers, with low rates of violent crime and a visible security presence in public spaces.

The main concerns for tourists are minor scams, such as overcharging by unlicensed taxis, and pickpocketing in crowded markets, so keeping personal belongings secure is advised.

While independent exploration is entirely feasible, booking guided tours is highly recommended for visiting distant attractions like the Great Wall or Beijing to overcome the language barrier and guarantee returning to the ship on time.

Weather & Climate

The region experiences a four-season, monsoon-influenced climate, with the main cruise season spanning from spring through autumn. Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant weather, with comfortable temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C and clear skies.

Summers are hot and humid, with temperatures frequently exceeding 30°C and the highest risk of heavy downpours, so passengers should pack light clothing, umbrellas, and plenty of sunscreen.

Getting Around

Taxis are readily available at the cruise terminal, but it is crucial to ensure the driver uses the meter or to agree on a flat rate beforehand. To travel further inland, many passengers choose to take a taxi to the Tanggu Railway Station to catch the high-speed Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway to reach Beijing quickly.

The city's extensive subway system is efficient and affordable, although reaching the nearest station from the port requires a taxi ride. For absolute convenience, pre-booking a private car service or participating in an organized cruise ship shore excursion is the most reliable way to navigate the region.

Shopping

Tianjin offers a fantastic variety of shopping experiences, ranging from ultra-modern malls to bustling traditional markets. Visitors should head to the famous Ancient Culture Street to shop for local crafts, including exquisite Clay Figurine Zhang sculptures, Yangliuqing woodblock prints, and delicate Chinese tea sets.

While prices in modern department stores are fixed, bargaining is highly encouraged and expected at open-air markets and souvenir stalls. The cruise terminal also features limited duty-free shopping options for departing passengers looking for last-minute gifts.
